Hoohui Visitation Centers

Artwork by Keoni, age 8
provide supervised visits between parents and children who are actively involved with Child Protective Services and foster placement. The Centers are located in Waipahu and Waianae. The goal of the program is to increase the likelihood of family re-unification through supportive parenting strategies and supervised visitation.

Supervised visitation takes place at the Waipahu or Waianae PACT locations. In certain cases, visits may take place in the community and/or in the home. During visitation, the Visitation Specialist is responsible for role modeling and coaching appropriate parenting skills, and intervenes when communication between the visiting parent and child is not appropriate or when the child's safety is compromised.

Hoohui Visitation Centers coordinates cases with Child ProtectiveServices (CPS) workers to make sure visits take place in the most natural setting possible. With CPS worker approval, visits can take place in public parks, doctors' offices and other sites that will help the parent get used to making sure the every day needs of the child are taken care of.

Transportation is provided at no cost for the children in out-of-home placement (foster care and residential institutions) to and from the scheduled visits.

Referrals for Hoohui Visitation Centers services are done by the CPS worker at the Department of Human Services. All families referred must be an active CPS case, reside on the Island of Oahu, and have children in out-of-home placement (foster care or residential institutions).

All visiting parents must be over the age of 18 in order to receive services. Visiting parents under the age of 18 may receive services with signed consent of parents or guardians. Once one of the PACT Hoohui Visitation Centers receives the referral from CPS, the Program Supervisor contacts the visiting parent(s) to schedule an intake interview.
