Community Teen Program is a comprehensive youth service center for youth ages 7-18 who live in and around Honolulu’s largest public housing complex, Kuhio Park Terrace and Kuhio Homes and in Puuwai Momi, a low-income housing project in Halawa. These after-school programs promote the development of healthy youth, families, and community with an abundance of activities and experiences for youth and family members including educational, recreational, community building, Please delete: prevention of teen pregnancies and support services. Parents can participate in parenting education and family strengthening activities. Case coordination services are available for youth and families coping with poor school performance, truancy, and other difficulties. Activities like sports and study hall give youth supervised alternatives to drugs and gangs, and special events involve families as well.

These activities promote the development of healthy youth and families by providing an abundance of positive experiences. EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES


»»» Power Hour

Get homework help, encouragement, and supervision. Bring a study buddy!
Healthy snacks are provided to youth when homework is completed.
Tuesday - Friday 2:15-4:00 pm. Ages 7-18

»»» Computer Lab
Learn how to use the computer. Improve your computer skills, try out the latest software or log on to the internet! Weekdays 2:30-7:00 pm. (Hours may vary) Ages 7-18

»»» Reading and Literacy
Participate in reading and literacy programs.  Ages 7-18

RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES


»»» Drop-In
Participate in supervised activities and play a variety of games–board games, ping-pong, foosball, pool table or sports. You can also watch videos, cook, sing, dance, listen to music and have a good time. Tuesday-Friday 2:15 - 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays from noon - 4:00 p.m. Hours may vary. Ages 7-18

»»» Sports
Participate in organized league sports or clinics including flag football, basketball, and volleyball. Learn basic athletic skills, discipline, and teamwork skills. You are also required to participate in Power Hour during the sports season. Practices and mandatory study hall are held twice a week. Game times and locations vary depending on the sport. Sports will vary by site. Ages 7-18

»»» Late-Night Basketball and Volley Ball Leagues
Play in FUN-TASTIC summer basketball and winter volleyball leagues and learn how to play more effectively. Practices are held twice a week and weekly games are held at Palama Settlement. Ages 11-18

»»» Karate
Join our self-defense/martial arts class held every Wednesday at Puuwai Momi and Friday at KPT from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at KPT for students from both sites . Enrollment is limited, and new classes start in January, April, July, and October. Uniform cost is $30. This is a year round activity. Ages 8-18

»»» Water Sports
Take advantage of our island home by participating in paddling, sailing and other water activities. Activities will vary by the season and the age requirement will vary depending on the activity.

COMMUNITY BUILDING


»»» Junior Neighborhood Security Walk (JNSW)
Take pride in your community and become a member of the JNSW and participate in our bi-monthly community patrol at KPT. Be your community’s eyes and ears! Ages 7-18

»»» Community Service Activities
Get involved in special projects where you can make positive contributions to your community by participating in service activities such as: beautification projects, graffiti paint outs and beach & trail clean-ups. Age requirement will vary depending on the activity.

»»» Case Coordination: Get the extra support you need to help you succeed in school. Meet with staff weekly and develop your plan for success. Ages 10-18 at KPT only

Sign up for our Healthy Lifestyles activities to:
    • Improve your health and wellness
    • Learn more about yourself and your values
    • Gain skills and knowledge for your teen years
    • New at KPT – Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) fitness classes.
Age requirement will vary depending on the activity.
